Comté is a classic semi-hard cheese made from unpasteurized cow's milk in the Franche-Comté region. Comté is a mildly nutty and slightly sweet French Alpine-style cheese.

Comte, matured for 14 months, is deliciously creamy, sweet and lightly hazelnut-like.

Comté cheese was first made in France in the 12th century and is now the most produced AOC cheese in France. Comté is carefully graded: each cheese is given a label based on appearance, rind, quality, texture and taste. Cheeses that do not pass the strict criteria are not given the Comté name.
