About us – Rolling Cheese, cheese shop and wine bar in Töölö

Rolling Cheese was born from a deep love of traditional cheese, wine, and European food culture. We’re Nelli and Peter Steer, and we set out to create a place in Helsinki where quality, direct relationships with producers, and a genuinely warm atmosphere go hand in hand.

Peter grew up in Oxfordshire and worked in cheese and delicatessen shops in Bristol during his studies. Over the years, he has developed a particular passion for artisan cheesemaking, affinage, and small-scale producers, and went on to manage a respected London-based cheese and wine import deli. He brings nearly 20 years of experience working with wine and close relationships with quality-driven European producers. That expertise shapes our wine selection today: traditionally made, low-intervention Old World wines that respect their origins and sit beautifully alongside the cheese.

Nelli has a long background in marketing and communications in both London and Helsinki, as well as a lifelong passion for good food and wine. At Rolling Cheese, she is responsible for the concept, visual identity, and the overall experience our customers encounter when they walk through the door.

Together, we’ve built a place where knowledge meets warm service in a relaxed European setting - somewhere that feels like a small cheese and wine shop in London, Lyon, or Milan.

Our own imports from small European producers

We import all our products ourselves and work directly with small producers in France, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, and Portugal. The selection changes with the seasons, but you’ll always find close to a hundred farmhouse and artisan cheeses on the counter.

We collaborate with respected affineurs and suppliers such as Mons Fromager and Neal’s Yard Dairy, with Portugal’s leading cannery José Gourmet, and with many independent producers across Europe. For us, quality means transparency, long-term relationships, and flavours with a real sense of place.

A cheese shop and wine bar in Töölö

We opened Rolling Cheese in the summer of 2021 on Museokatu in Etu-Töölö. In 2023, we expanded into the neighbouring premises, and in 2026 we added a third space within the same building. What began as a dream for two people has grown into a small community, supported by a team of cheese and wine professionals who care deeply about what they do.

While we proudly serve our local Töölö community, visitors travel to us from all over Finland. We are a cheese shop and wine bar in Helsinki — a place to pop in for provisions, stay for a glass of wine, or join us for a guided tasting.

Our online shop brings Rolling Cheese to homes across Finland. Every week we deliver cheeses and delicacies throughout Uusimaa and to cities including Oulu, Kuopio, Jyväskylä, Tampere, Turku, and Lahti.

We also supply more than 30 restaurants and wine bars in Helsinki and elsewhere in Finland. Working closely with hospitality professionals is an essential part of what we do.
