MATILDE & EDOARDO
MEET THE PRODUCER
Meriggio is a Piedmontese producer, founded by cousins Matilde and Edoardo. They continue the story of the company founded in 1924 - in their own way. Matilde keeps the project's feet on the ground and ensures that growth takes place ethically and sustainably. Edoardo is more of a visionary: rooted in its roots, but with an eye on the future. Together, they give a new direction to the historic brand, where tradition and the modern way of using olive oil meet. Meriggio's roots run along the ancient Salt Route. These trade routes connected the Po River Valley with Liguria to provide the hinterland with sea salt. The same roads also transported olive oil to the north and Piedmontese products to the south. The company was founded along this route in 1924, continuing the trade relations that had already been established in the area. The name Meriggio comes from the old verb meriggiare - the peace of midday. The idea that good food is not enjoyed in a hurry. Meriggio's goal is to elevate extra virgin olive oil to the same level of esteem as wine: a product that is respected and tasted, not just consumed.
