How do you actually recognise a truly great olive oil?

On Wednesday 14 October, we’ll dive into the world of olive oil together with Matilde and Edoardo Rinaldi – the duo behind Meriggio, one of Piemonte’s most exciting olive oil brands.

During the evening, we’ll taste a selection of extra virgin olive oils and, under Edoardo’s guidance, learn to recognise their different aromas, flavour profiles and characteristics. We’ll explore what separates a good olive oil from an exceptional one, what its flavour can tell us about its origin and production, and which styles work best with salads, pasta, fish, for finishing dishes or for cooking.

Edoardo Rinaldi is a professional olive oil taster and a fourth-generation member of the Rinaldi olive oil family. Together with his cousin Matilde, he is now closely involved with Meriggio, a historic brand founded in 1924.

Matilde and Edoardo have also begun an ambitious new chapter in the food history of the Langhe. They have planted four hectares of olive trees in the hills around Alba, with the aim of producing the first extra virgin olive oil made entirely from olives grown in the Langhe.

This tasting is suitable both for curious olive oil lovers and for professionals working with food.
