HERO HIRSH
MEET THE AUTHOR
Hero Hirsh is a London-based cheesemonger, educator and author who has spent nearly 20 years immersed in the world of cheese. Her career has taken her from working behind the cheese counter and teaching cheese professionals to helping run London's famous cheese conveyor belt restaurants. In 2012, she won the prestigious Cheesemonger of the Year title and has been a regular judge at the World Cheese Awards for over a decade. She was also the first person to receive the distinguished Fellow title from the Academy of Cheese.
To us at Rolling Cheese, Hero is also an old acquaintance from London. We first met her at a friend's New Year's house party, where we got talking about cheese – and proceeded to spend the entire rest of the evening discussing exactly that. It says a great deal about Hero: alongside her extraordinary knowledge comes genuine curiosity, a wonderful sense of humour and an infectious enthusiasm for sharing the world of cheese with others.
Her debut book, The Curious Cheese Eater (2026), is very much a reflection of her personality: knowledgeable, witty and wonderfully approachable. It's a fascinating introduction to the history, making and enjoyment of cheese, reminding us that you don't need to know everything about cheese to love it – but the more you discover, the more interesting it becomes.
