Neal's Yard Dairy
Neal's Yard Dairy is one of Britain's most famous cheese houses – and for many, the reason why British farmhouse cheeses are now valued worldwide with the same seriousness as French or Italian cheeses.
The company's story began in London in 1979 with a small cheese shop in Neal's Yard, Covent Garden. However, very quickly, the focus shifted from merely selling cheeses to maturing them, aging them, and above all, supporting small British cheesemakers. Neal's Yard Dairy did tremendous work in preserving many traditional British cheeses at a time when some of them were almost disappearing altogether.
Today, Neal's Yard Dairy works in close cooperation with dozens of small farmhouse dairies across Britain and Ireland. They not only buy cheeses for resale but also actively participate in their aging, quality development, and even the creation of new cheeses. Each cheese is selected and aged by hand in their own maturing cellars.
Neal's Yard Dairy is especially known for British classics such as Montgomery's Cheddar, Stichelton, Hafod, Sparkenhoe, and Kirkham's Lancashire – cheeses that strongly reflect the origin of the milk, the seasons, and the makers' personal touch. The cheeses often have a certain British straightforwardness: a lot of depth and structure.
Rolling Cheese acts as the exclusive importer of Neal's Yard Dairy cheeses in Finland. For us, Neal's Yard Dairy represents exactly the kind of food culture we love: small producers, strong expertise, preservation of traditions, and products that genuinely taste of their place of origin. Their cheeses have been an important part of our counter from the very beginning – and there isn't really a day when a Neal's Yard cheese doesn't end up on our own plate.
